Summer Vacation Camp (Ages 6-8)

June Bug Camp Favorites! (Ages 8-11)
Have a summer's worth of fun in just one week. Discover nature, adventure and outdoor excitement in this power packed week of camp! Come be a June Bug with Regina. Camp Director and Park Naturalist Regina Wasson has led outdoor adventures and kids camp activities all around the world. Spend the week swimming, canoeing, exploring wild places and looking for animals. We will also play ambush, hike in the creek to catch crawdads and tell stories. Each day will be a new adventure and a chance to experience the outdoor wonders of camp. We will begin each day at the nature center then travel and explore a different outdoor setting. Off The Beaten Path (Ages 8-11)
Let’s go trail blazing! There are so many ways to explore our natural world. Spend time hiking and exploring area parks. Discover what gear you need, how to stay safe and learn survival skills if you get lost. Explore the activity of Letterboxing. Learn how to use a map and compass and try an orienteering course. Fine Art of Nature Camp (Ages 8-12)
Colors, shapes, stories, and sounds. Nature is art all in itself. Spend time outdoors hiking and canoeing. Observe nature’s beauty and make crafts from natural objects. Draw live animals! Make your own journal and use it to draw or write stories and personal thoughts about nature. Spend a day at the beach and make sand sculptures. Wonderful Week of Water Camp (Ages 8-12)
What is it that makes water so special? Spend the week exploring our various water resources. Learn about the water cycle and how to protect our lakes, streams and rivers. Take a hike in a creek, catch crawdads and go seining. Use dipnets to discover critters in a pond and look closely at water microorganisms. Race canoes across a lake and try to catch a monster fish! Junior Naturalist Camp (Ages 9-12)
Your young naturalist will discover the diversity of life in local prairies, forests, and streams through this hands-on enrichment camp. Ernie Miller Park will be our base camp. Your child will be led by a Naturalist and explore natural areas in our parks. Through observation, investigation, and collection, each student will learn about native animals and plants. We will record our observations and work on a special project. Camp activities will also include hiking, canoeing and stream hiking. Upon successful completion campers will receive a certificate. Amazing Adventures Camp (Ages 11-13)
Experience four days of Amazing Adventures with us! Campers will spend time teambuilding on the challenge course, canoeing, flying through the trees on the zip line, hiking, fishing, and swimming. Fishing & Canoeing Camp (Ages 11-15)
Do you enjoy fishing? Join us and meet new fishing buddies. We will fish at TimberRidge Adventure Center and other JCPRD lakes. Participants will be introduced to canoeing with the ACA Quickstart program by a certified ACA canoe instructor. Campers will also learn about different baits, identifying fish, and hopefully catch lots of fish! Please provide your own pole and tackle. Campers will swim, but the majority of activities will be fishing and canoeing. Participants will meet at Ernie Miller Nature Center. For more information call (913) 856-8849. Experience the 40 ft. climbing wall, learn how to tie knots, belay, team belay and rappel off our 40 ft. climbing tower. The focus of this camp will be the skills needed for climbing and rappelling. We will also swim and canoe. Each participant will need a health and liability form signed by a parent or guardian to participate. Campers must be 12 years old by the first day of camp due to the high risk nature of this camp. Participants will meet at Ernie Miller Nature Center. For more information call (913) 856-8849. Independent Spirit for Girls Camp (Ages 13-16)
Campers will spend time, learning self defense, changing a tire and basic car maintenance, outdoor skills to include: BB guns, archery, boating, and the power of choice on the challenge course.
