OUTDOOR DISCOVERY CAMP

WEEKLY THEMES

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE! - School’s out for summer! Let’s go hang out where the wild things are. Travel to TimberRidge Adventure Center and use your imagination to travel around the world. Swing through the jungle like Indiana Jones. Journey across the sea like pirates of long ago and walk across a volcano. Team work, creativity, and the spirit of adventure will kick off the summer days!

PREDATORS ON THE PRAIRIE - Lions, tigers, and bears, oh my! What predators live on the prairie? Learn about the food chains and the web of life that connects all of nature.

VISIT THE CRAWDAD HOLE - Crayfish, spiders, and insects are fascinating creatures. Study these amazing arthropods and learn about their habitats. Can you catch a crawdad?

GEOWHIZ KIDS - Explore the soil and investigate rocks and minerals. Learn about the forces that shape our world. Examine crystals, gems and fossils.

NIGHT CALLS - Whoo calls for you? What animals work the night shift? Big and small, we will look for them all. Mysterious…these nocturnal critters are seldom seen and sometimes misunderstood. Coyotes, skunks, and owls will be studied.

OUR HERITAGE - Our rich heritage weaves a colorful tapestry of stories, myths, and legend. Relive some of the experiences of long ago. Hear stories from a Pilgrim from Plymouth and learn about how the Native Americans helped them survive.

EXPLORE OUR PARKS - Have you ever wondered what it is like to work in a park? We will learn about different careers in the park world. The parks belong to all of us and taking care of our resources is a big job. Visit with a Park Police Officer and a Park Naturalist. Design a park of your own.

CRITTER COMMUNICATION - Use your nose and follow the trail to a hidden den. Animals communicate differently than us. Can you bugle like an elk, sniff out a snack or bluff an enemy? Show your stuff when you pretend to be an animal in a nature skit.

GO GREEN - It’s easy being green! Discover how you can help our earth by more than just recycling. Learn about composting, saving energy and water too! Meet Mother Nature herself and some of her animal friends. (Ernie Miller Park camp only)

WET, WACKY WATER - It’s summer time fun with water games and aquatic activities. Build a raft and slide like a beaver. Go on a watery obstacle course. Swamp canoes and launch water balloons.

CAMP MEMORIES - Camp is filled with songs, surprises, and stories. Revisit some favorite activities. Build a fort and play ambush. Entertain your friends at the annual talent show.
